The Database for Living Beings in Captivity

Helping  preserving    BIODIVERSITY

KeepBase is a non-profit database, allowing online registration of living beings kept in captivity: from public zoos to our home.

By keeping track of those specimens, their breedings and generations, one can preserve well identified strains, close to what they once were in nature, optimizing genetic recombination and taking advantage of small genetic pools.

Besides registration facilities, KeepBase will also include information about the species and it will present special features for:

  • Non-profict entities related to the study and conservation of living beings
  • Breeding programs with conservation purposes
  • Educational institutions
  • Zoos and public aquariums

KeepBase is organized in autonomous units called Keeping Areas normally following the scientific classification (taxonomy).

First keeping area available: Fish.
